This a plane from the 5th Emergency Rescue Sqdn, P-47D 42-8586 5F-S. Seen in the left background is 42-8646 5F-Y "Primrose Peggy". The unit was invaluable at offering airsea rescue, and were responsible for saving many many lives! Under each wing they would carry a dingy pack that would inflate immediately on contact with the water. This unit operated from Boxted, England, before being transfered to Halesworth.
